The guy that is the orchestrator that you for the product that you're gonna see on the field David Stern's Brewers GM now joins us on the show did mr. GMMR Stearns a donut that. Nor are up doing well man good to have you back. I know it's not to the whether you want put to how about the team that you want in the team it's gonna be on the field how optimistic are you how excited are you. We're we're definitely excited says get this thing rolling get the heat and artery had. I think we all feel was very productive camp. Really from my perspective in spring training what we're looking for help and anarchy at all of those throughout our spring training time in Arizona. Look at tortured warmer up here a little bit but the good news is we have a roof. And we get all those people and their Monday afternoon it'll a warm place you know. Think every year is this Aram for who would you talk about rebuilding you guys have been great in the fact you've been very transparent about its for the fans know exactly what to expect but. How big of a year is this in that rebuild process for you. Really ever yours that. You we reached we can't take a year off we can't. This is step for a year and then pick back up every year is big and and every year we progress through this process. The years means something a little bit different at this stage. We're still looking to bill back core group of young players. We agreed we began that process last year and had number player stuff up with a Major League level a number of players continued their progression through our minor league system. That process continues. We're getting closer to having some of those players who have developed her Marley system reached the major leagues and that's exciting for all of us but. I think first and foremost as we look at our Major League club we look at guys like yeah Broxton got like trapped in the Erik same strap which also of these these position players are operas. Out of the younger position players who have really developed to bring a nice court to this team. I look kids judge guys like yeah you are and I think OK there's a cat that I'm watching I I was really impressed with the spring training as ethic working in the off season. And then the fact he earned his way onto this team now what do can he do can be taken to that next level fame skinny then come back from that do you know playing ball in Korea. And take it to the next level and obviously some of the pieces did you just mention I think there's are very good core here. But you're looking now all to expound upon and find a couple more pieces do you feel that you have say a solid. 567. Guys you believe can be starters in the future now sitting here in the Major League club where you still tinkering in your stole archer. That group we have the potential of having that and I think that the truth is. I'm we have a lot of guys on this team right now who have a lot of potential to be very quality Major League players and some of them have done it. For spurts of it he and some of them have done it. Hopper for an entire speed and the truth is the only person who's done it consistently throughout his racially career Bryant brought because he's the only really established veteran. For a position player perspective every outlet stop left on the team so. It's fair to say that we have questions about some of the other position players will what I am confident about that they all have talent. They all have drive and and they're certainly doing their best see the opportunities that they have in front of them. When you when I talked to at the end of the season last year we are talking about pitching and you were looking a lot of the young arms that you have and you've got a lot of arms that are highly rated whether it's baseball perspective baseball America you know MLB whatever. And at what point do you then it during a rebuilt start to say okay. Now we have to get into free agency and get us those one or two arms that are going to be over the next two years the establish people that are gonna then take this win this thing all comes to fruition is it next season or is that the season after that. If probably for any external acquisition whether it's free agency or trade. If he were a lot the team serve dictate. When we dip our toe into those waters so more serious expectant. Some of it will be dictated by team needs some of it going to be dictated by. A market forces and and what's available. I don't think we can necessarily just say that were going to have to Q. Build part of our rotation next certainly we made yelled bill it internally I'm or remain need to go out supplement. As we eat as we go through the next couple of years but. Oh what I am confident of is that what we determine where we need to supplement and what avenues we need he filtered to do that. Operate have the resources available to us that's something that our ownership group president has committed to me. And and I certainly believe it'll be. That's good here because that's the same question I was gonna ask you because we got into that route reiteration statement of once it comes or for -- and do you have the funds to go out and get the supplementation that you need so the fact that you BB two punches very good thing getting back to the guys in the majors and by the early retirement Brewers GM. David Stern's Domingo Santana he started the sees a little bit nicked up last year didn't have the year that he wanted came back a sort of playing well at the end where is he in the progression right now. Domingo healthy. Including I don't really positive spurring you seeing the ball very well right now. The Eagles are very skilled hitter he's a skilled offensive player yet understand strikes and balls he. Makes very good decisions clearly we've all seen the power to all field. Where were challenging Domingo this year's and some of those other. Aspect the defense the base running. Think that maybe aren't quite as evident by but are very important to winning baseball Domingo. It's gonna meet that challenge head on I think he he understands the areas of the game where he can continue to and curve and not work cited the speed that. The other area you believe in ample that you lease from the acquisitions I've seen you make is all up the middle it's is everybody can play up the middle and that's where the god of the team begins it all begins with the catching battery as well how happy are you with peeing in bandy and what you have in the minors. We recruit. Gut are really nice really trio O of catchers checked and you Manny Kenya Anderson he's second to second or two has been begin the year. On the disabled list with say that was it with a trap and your injury it just hasn't come down for him. But the two guys will start the season with a dandy in Kenya. Not either has has been given that opportunity. To catch Greg early in the big release of reaching their ball deserving. I think Craig is gonna do a good job of of managing the playing time for those few guys. Getting them the proper matchups and and we think that. We have a solid solid catching duo we may not see one guy in particular catch a 10340. Games like chopped the court. Used to but between our our team but catchers. That really go through over the course of the year we agreed a production out of that position. It was interest in because Craig had said during one of the U pre. That it wasn't about coming down and working with the pitchers as say a veteran like when Croyle would it was about just being a better catcher did you see that progression and does is that help or detriment to those pitchers. That are trying to work or those guys. And get on that same pages well. Take note those of big part of spring training as he's getting our catching group. Comparable with the purse comfortable with some of the information we have Coca-Cola how we like to call games. Getting to know our pitchers to some extent and certainly continuing to work on their own individual defense of games. All three guys worked incredibly hard throughout the spring. I do think we made progress for a familiarity standpoint between our pitcher catcher some of that have to continue. Throughout this first part of of the heat and but. The good news is we have by our pitchers we have bind from our catchers they want to work with each other they want to get to know each other that's a really good first out. The did the minor league system everybody talks about how stacked it is combo where do you feel the minor league system how much more tinkering do you have to do or are you now waiting for that cream to rise in the top. I don't know that we're ever going to be done adding to our minor league system well I'm I'm hoping that there comes a time or. Coming off of a deep playoff run or a World Series championship there were still looking to add to our mileage system that's that's. Key to our success and our sustained success is continually having one of the best minor league systems in baseball. I think we've done a nice job over. Of restocking that system over the past couple of years. But our work there is is never done the extent we can continue to bring young talent in the organization out but a chance to eat here for many years to come. Not we're not gonna turn away from that. How well can you gauge minor league pitching in Colorado Springs. It's a challenge it is certainly a challenge. We have to rely on our coaches reports as much as we are a lot. That is really tough to look at a players ERA. For camp when Colorado Springs and have any understanding of how well or poorly he's pitched. So we're looking more excuses pitches. We're looking more on. How the how the stuff we think would play in a more neutral environment are they generating swing and misses are they throwing strikes in general. But it it is certainly more challenging Q evaluate a pitcher. In Colorado Springs and it would be in a more neutral and our. For you right now is this a quiet time or is this the evaluation time for you because I would assume with. Until really get down to trade talks come midpoint of the season that your phone does star blowing up so this is just more evaluation time for you. Good solid dilation I think over the next couple days and still a few questions to answer about our opening day roster. But we're gonna work through our roster just. Submitted by noon on Sunday so we have a little kinds to get to that point. Once the season starts phone calls generally you come down a little while everyone take stock of what they have in house before they really begin looking externally. It's always a pleasure we wish you the best select they wanted to ask you because I had set I'm looking at this team seven he wins I'd be happy without their playing relevant baseball on August did you put any kind of a threshold in your mind and you don't have to reveal it but give a threshold in your mind when you wanna see this team end up this season. No you know I I really don't if if we continue. Q develop young players have to continue to add to back core group of of young players at the Major League level. I'm going to be satisfied -- if we continue to do that. We're wind certainly to follow it that Major League level and I know that. But really my my goal circuit to continue to see that progression development of that young group of players that was talked about it. And I didn't receive that. Russell I ditto we will see on Monday okay excited for it. You are gonna duck till later stereo David Stern's Brewers GM joining us for a couple minutes on the Schneider orange college shatter Harry drivers right now you work are they treat you fair eighty plus years living getting it done column 844 pride. Or go to Schneider jobs dot com 844 try to go to Schneider jobs dot com interesting because he beat me to the punch by saying. Once we because I wanted to asking that question specifically to say once this year culminates. And you start looking as the team dictates not this team gets a seventy Gator 81 wins suppose they climb here 500. At what point do you begin to supplement the pitching staff to say OK we need that legitimate one we need that legitimate to. I know the market is like he said gonna have to dictate that. But then he said we've already got a commitment from the ownership group that whatever we need to get we have the funds to go get. And that's encouraging to hear this is the third time now I twice have as David Stern's or he's it to at least alluded to that any other time we talked to Rick Schlesinger. The VP of business operations we talked to him about that as well and it's it's it's interesting to hear the Brewers organizational. Hierarchy say we have the funds committed once we want to make the Ron. Now how much of that how much of that is going to be competitive with say what the Cubs can spend the Dodgers can spend there yankees can spend the Red Sox I don't know. But they keep saying it once we get there money's not the object. And that's encouraging to hear.
